Learn how to read an explanation of benefits. Look under the Patient Responsibility column. Compare that column with the bill the doctor or dentist has sent. They should be the same number.

If you or someone in your family has an accident and you are on a policy where accidents are covered before deductible, most likely the bill will be paid incorrectly. You must call the insurance company and make sure it was billed as an accident. Then follow their steps to have your bill corrected. My family has many accidents and rarely is it billed correctly, so it’s not just you this happens to.
